Zonta International selected the 11th of January as Amelia Earhart Day in recognition of the day Zontian and famed aviator Amelia Earhart began her trip from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Oakland, California, United Sates.

The sixth of February is International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, a day to raise awareness of the practice and work towards its elimination.


Observance of World Day of Social Justice should support efforts of the international community in poverty eradication, the promotion of full employment and decent work, gender equity and access to social well-being and justice for all.

Zonta Rose Day is celebrated each year on 8 March, which is also International Women’s Day, a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

In its resolution A/RES/67/147, the General Assembly calls on the international community to use the International Day to significantly raise awareness and intensify actions towards ending obstetric fistula.

World Population Day, established in 1989, is a day to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues, such as the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.

The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.


In 2013, Member States adopted resolution A/RES/68/192 and designated July 30 as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.

World Humanitarian Day, which takes place every year on 19 August, recognizes the aid workers who risk their lives in humanitarian service, and mobilizes people to advocate for humanitarian action.
