Join Zonta International and the Permanent Mission of Zambia to the United Nations for this side event which will discuss challenges in reaching women and girls in the rural areas, including lack of quality education, especially affecting girls, which leads to the lack of achieving their full potential as adults; the lack of empowerment in laws that affect women and girls, as well as the lack of adequate enforcement of such laws, specifically in relation to violence; the impact traditional practices have on implementation of the law and on women’s and girls’ human rights; and the need to train men to support societal change.
