Area 3, District 28 Zontians come together for community service project

At the beginning of the 2016-2018 Biennium, members of Area 3 District 28 proposed to carry out a service project for women in the areas affected by the earthquake in central Italy on 24 August and 30 October 2016.

After the earthquake, a group of women founded an association called House of Women of Amatrice and Neighboring Municipalities with the aim of hosting artisanal workshops. This includes a laboratory where women can create various artifacts and give a new sense of community to a place so wounded by the earthquake.

The clubs that participated in the service project are the Zonta clubs of Bari, Barletta, Bologna, Cosenza, Cremona, Martina Franca, Milano Sant’Ambrogio, Napoli, Roma 1, Roma Capitolium, Roma Parioli III, Palermo Zyz, Taranto and Venezia.

Each club that participated in the service efforts also raised funds.

District 28 donated a consistent amount for this service. The collected amount of about US$8K was donated to the House of Women of Amatrice and Neighboring Municipalities in November 2017 on the occasion of the Area 3 meeting in Venice.

In April 2018, the Area Director and Zontians of the Zonta clubs of Roma Capitolium and Roma Parioli III went to Amatrice to visit the places of the earthquake and the area where the house will be built.

The president and members of the Women's House of Amatrice and Neighboring Municipalities donated a plaque to Area 3 and District 28 to recognize the contribution offered for the construction of the house.
