District 20 Zontians start science club for girls

As a result of a campaign in Finland and Estonia, District 20 Zontians have created the ZAU Science Clubs, aimed mainly to encourage girls to explore science.

The campaign is also in honor the 100th anniversary of Zonta International. By the end of October 2019, a sum equivalent to $155,000 had been donated for establishing these clubs in various parts of the district.

The clubs are a collaboration between the Zonta clubs and LUMA Centre Finland with its network of science and technology universities. The abbreviation ‘ZAU’ comes from the Finnish words meaning ‘Zonta gives courage.’

At the initiative of the Zonta Club of Lieksa and their area director, District 20 and LUMA Centre Finland commissioned a presentation video by Mikko Tirkkonen of MAT Future Vision on the ZAU Science Club in a small local school in the middle of the wilderness.

The video was made in both Finnish and English with the goal of spreading the message from both the Zonta organization and the ZAU Science Clubs as widely as possible. Watch the video here.
