Message from Zonta International President on Osaka earthquake

At 7:58 a.m. local time, an estimated magnitude-6.1 earthquake struck a wide area of western Japan, including Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo and Shiga prefectures.

We have been in touch with the governor and lieutenant governor of District 26. There are many Zontians living in the area, but to their knowledge, none of them were hurt.

Our thoughts are with all those affected as they face the destruction and repair of their homes and surrounding areas.

As you know, we are hosting the 64th Zonta International Convention in Yokohama, Japan, in less than two weeks. Yokohama is about 490 km (approximately 304 miles) from the site of the earthquake and was not affected. I look forward to joining together and celebrating our achievements over the last two years.
