To observe International Day of the Girl Child in October, the Zonta Club of Dhaka III, District 25, organized a special program with 100 underprivileged students and parents in their Shishu Bikash Kendra service project.
Shishu Bikash Kendra is a service project of the Zonta Club Dhaka III where 160 children from slum areas are given free education, food, books, uniforms and stationary. In the afternoon, adult education courses are held for parents, where skill development activities like sewing and tailoring are taught.
During the October event, special guest Mahera Khatun from UNICEF, Area Vice Director Zareen D Karim and the president of the club spoke about the importance of eliminating child marriage.
Nandita Hore, a former Jane M. Klausman Women in Business scholar and now a Zonta International young professional member, led 100 students and parents to chant "Ballo Bibaho Bondo Koro,” which means “stop child marriage” as they waved red flags.
